AI and machine learning have a significant role in the year ahead, like many other businesses and innovations. There is a strong potential for simulation to use AI and machine learning to complete simple processes and administration to save time. A machine learning engine can monitor the use of simulation instruments by senior engineers, including how they use it and what parameters they set to replicate this accurately to a degree for less experienced engineers and allow them to use the tool.
Using data-driven or physics-informed neural network solvers to accelerate simulation by orders of magnitude is another field where AI/ML can assist with simulation. These newer AI/ML approaches use neural networks to overcome PDEs instead of solving second-order partial differential equations (PDE) using conventional numerical methods such as a finite element or finite volume methods. These approaches function with simple geometries and boundary conditions. We are focusing on applying these new approaches to complex issues in the real world.

Interactions in Multiphysics
Multiphysics has roots dating back 50 years as a term. It has experienced many obstacles as it has progressed, and today there are interactions between the various tools of physics. Historically, an engineer will use multiple physics simulations to solve several design problems with a single product.
Microservices for Simulation
We will also see progress made in 'simulation microservices,' whereby we convert the significant parts of simulation from one monolith phase to dedicated separate aspects, such as geometry, then meshing, followed by solver finally post-processing. The steps required for simulation will be independent; instead of one single process, there will be geometry services, meshing services, solver services, and post-processing services.
