Innovation at its Best

As a relatively young company founded in 2002, Refrion is a leading provider of industrial air conditioning and ventilated equipment. Ever since its inception, the company has laid focus on “a better innovation” offering smart solutions at reasonably low prices. “We want to be competitive, but through innovation,” remarks Daniele Stolfo, Sole Director of Refrion. Explaining about the current cooling requirements of the data center market, he says, “In addition to the high quality of the products that is always required, very high reliability of performance is also a must.” Satisfying these demands, Refrion has set up the biggest test laboratory in Europe to perform Final Assessment Test (FAT) to guarantee that its innovative cooling systems are 100 percent performance-oriented even before delivery and installation—something uncommon in the world of dry coolers. Besides, Refrion’s cooling systems are highly energy efficient with reduced noise emissions and electrical consumptions, which is critical to data center infrastructures. Because of these capabilities, the company has earned Eurovent certification.

Refrion’s portfolio of cooling systems includes dry coolers, air-cooled condensers, and heat exchangers. “We have an extensive range of dry coolers starting from small units of 20 kilowatts to the big units having 20 fans and delivering 2 megawatts of power,” states Ervin Di Gleria, Sales Manager, Refrion.

The company’s Ecooler range, the only dry cooler with air adiabatic saturation and recirculation system, maximises the period of use under “free cooling” conditions to ensure optimum performance. With an industrial adiabatic system where the water is never in contact with the coils and nor with the frame of the unit, the Ecooler avoids any risk of corrosion. When run on “wet” mode, the Ecooler can be used for 24h 7 days, because only the panels are affected by the deterioration. Most importantly, the Ecooler’s water recirculation system allows for very low power consumptions without any expensive water treatments. Besides, Refrion guarantees all the hygienic requirements thanks to the special design and PLC control. “We offer a wide range of adiabatic systems according to the different market needs; thanks to the Refrion R&D and Refrion Climatic Chamber, Refrion’s unique Laboratory, we are able to constantly improve and develop new solutions, always oriented towards energy and water savings,” says DiGleria.

To deliver heavy-duty and high-efficiency data center cooling solutions, Refrion offers its prime innovation—the oval tube. This technology offers higher efficiency of the coils, reducing power consumptions and noise levels. The oval tube, Refrion’s exclusive solution, is also used in heat exchangers to reduce air pressure drops and guaranteeing top performances. Alongside data center cooling, Refrion also marks a strong presence in the industrial cooling and energy sector.

In an instance, Refrion installed the complete cooling system for a data center of a very reputed bank institute in the U.K. They installed Ecooler units combined with the water chillers where Refrion adiabatic units are most definitely the main energy saving units on the system with excellent efficiency performances. As a result, the data center that has been operating since 2006, registered almost 70 per cent cut in its power consumption.

With eyes set on innovation and energy saving, Refrion is continuously working in order to introduce new solutions. The new laws and regulations will accelerate the adoption of adiabatic coolers, and Refrion is well prepared to face future challenges.
