Harvesting crops that quickly get damaged, including lettuce, strawberries, and other specialty crops, demand hand dexterity, quality judgment, and a delicate touch. Many harvesting robots currently lack the awareness to determine whether anything is ready to be picked from the vine. While robotic milking stations have got installed across the country since their introduction in the early 2000s, specialist crop harvesting robotics are already in the research and development stage and still have yet to achieve the accuracy and effectiveness of human farm labor.
