Use of Location Technology to Select 5G Telecom Site

By CIO Applications Europe| Thursday, May 16, 2019
Tweet

telecomThe most significant breakthrough in telecommunications is 5G. Its influence is not only restricted to telecommunications but spans across verticals, including utilities and public safety. It is the culmination of the process that will take technological innovation on a new trajectory. Due to the extensive technical sophistication of 5G deciding a site for 5G cells necessitates particular is more complicated than picking a place for 3G or 4G.

5G is based on an array of tiny cells. It needs at least 50 times more antenna locations than 3G or 4G. 5G signals are much more potent than other connections, but it has its pros and cons. It is incapable of traveling far and wide like its previous embodiments.

5G cells are spread at different locations, rather than focusing on a large number of cells at a single site. It is to make sure that in case there are network breakdown issues, users can continue to get adequate services. Since the 5G network cells would be equally distributed in a vast area, it's necessary to select a location. Location intelligence helps telecom operators to choose the best location possible according to the following criteria:

Population Classification

Until 5G is mainstreamed adequately substantially, it won't be cost-effective. The installations of towers need to be in upmarket areas that are expected to embrace 5G earlier than others. Telecom firms will need the distribution of those areas on the map where using Location Intelligence organizations can figure out the area which has the desired population composition.

Identifying potential clients

A lot of people would want to get 5G connections on their smartphones when it is available in the market. Location technology can help telecom operator to identify people who would be interested in upgrading to 5G from 4G.

Accessibility

The location of the cell site is another crucial factor for ensuring round-the-clock high-speed connectivity. As cells do not require regular inspections, the location shouldn't be congested or inaccessible.

Regional regulations and laws also play a significant role in the mainstreaming of any technology. It is necessary that the legal framework is conducive to technology, and laws don't inhibit enterprise.
