Fundamentally, cloud vendors perform on a massive scale – a single data center can consume 10 to 100 megawatts of power, for which they rely primarily on national grids or power plants managed independently by third parties. This makes the consistent availability of sufficient electricity an issue for data center companies, especially as fast expansion and scalable market demands entail a scalable power source that is otherwise only available in limited quantities.
