Fremont, CA: Companies have been investing in their field service role in recent years in order to distinguish and personalize their services while also increasing overall operating performance. COVID-19 has resulted in a rise in service demand, with ServicePower stating that, in order to meet the growing demand, field service organizations have increased their investment in service personnel by 72 percent. According to a survey conducted in January 2021, 65 percent of US customers said they needed technician assistance during the current pandemic.

Many service companies are adopting a new operating model as a result of the need to minimize customer downtime at all costs, as well as the changes brought about by the ongoing crisis. Field services are moving to an outcome-based strategy for their clients, where the focus is keeping customer equipment running rather than following complex procedures and protocols. Customers' contractual commitments are simplified as a result, and the field service provider may take whatever measures are required to prevent or fix problems as quickly as possible.

Remote AR assistance helps improve outcome-based service
Organizations depend heavily on the automated remote control and remote assistance tools to ensure that equipment is always at peak capacity in order to deliver on the contracted outcomes. Issues can be detected early, and when the repair is easy, it can be done by on-site personnel with the help of remote experts rather than field engineers.
Investment in remote support
As we approach 2021, service providers in every sector are struggling with how to maintain high levels of customer service while still dealing with the serious safety issues posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to the mid-pandemic survey conducted in January 2021, 65 percent of consumers believe that they would prefer to avoid technician visits unless absolutely appropriate, and two-thirds (64 percent) of consumers would be more loyal to companies that take extra technical support safety precautions. In the future, businesses will introduce creative technologies that enable them to serve their customers without requiring direct human contact – a model known as contactless service.
