The acquisition has been in the works since early March this year and allows ClaimCompass to expand beyond the EU, provide coverage for US and Canadian flights, and advance its product roadmap.
FREMONT, CA: Bulgarian passenger rights provider in Europe, ClaimCompass, which helps travelers get compensated in cases of flight disruptions, completed the acquisition of Service, a provider of a travel app, based out of Los Angeles, which has brought flight compensation to the US market. The deal amount remains undisclosed.
“There are some very obvious synergies between ClaimCompass and Service and we intend to continue to provide a great experience to our mutual customers,” said Alexander Sumin, founder and Chief Marketing Officer at ClaimCompass. “Existing Service users will benefit from our expertise and legal network in Europe, while ClaimCompass customers will have the option to be protected even when they fly outside of the EU.”

The acquisition has been in the works since early March this year and allows ClaimCompass to expand beyond the EU, provide coverage for US and Canadian flights, and advance its product roadmap. Service offers an application that leverages parsing technology and a simple inbox connection to find past instantly and future flights and secure money owed to passengers for flight disruptions and hotel rate changes.
The acquisition comes at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted travel companies. Despite the challenging conditions in the market, CliamCompass remains positive. “Sure, we’ve seen better times to be a travel tech company. But we’re also fortunate enough to be in good financial standing to weather the storm and be there for passengers when travel resumes again,” said Tanya Mitkova, founder and CEO.
Service’s application works by connecting to an inbox and finding any previous flights for which a traveler may be entitled to receive compensation in the form of cash, vouchers or miles, following a disruption such as a long delay, cancellation or overbooking. Also, it proactively monitors upcoming flights, as well as hotel reservations, and automatically saves travelers money if the rate drops by rebooking the exact room for the cheaper rate.
Service was founded in 2015 and raised just under USD 8 million from investors such as Founders Fund, Maveron, Menlo Ventures, and more, valuing the company at approximately USD 20 million. Service acquired the Israeli company Hotel Rate PRO in 2018, which allowed them to offer the hotel product.
