Fremont, CA: Nanotechnology enabler for pharmaceutical companies, Leon nanodrugs, closed a Series B round of financing for an undisclosed amount. The financing round was participated by TVM Life Science Innovation I.L.P., CD-Venture GmbH, Albany Private Equity Holdings Pty Ltd, Eckenstein-Geigy-Stiftung, LOF Leon Partnership, L.P., Evotec SE and BayBG. The proceeds from the Series B round will be used by the company to strengthen further its leadership position in the provision of nano solutions for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
The company also announced a strategic partnership with Evotec SE. Evotec and Leon will cooperate on selected development programs and maximize the effectiveness of clinical and commercial nanomedicines. "We are at the forefront of innovation in the international pharmaceutical market, leading the way in nanoformulation of APIs. The strategic partnership with Evotec enables us to exploit the value of our technology and deliver a solution to clients from concept to GMP, successfully delivering products to market," said Andrea Cusack, Chief Executive Officer, Leon.

The company's proprietary MicroJet Reactor (MJR) technology platforms offer access to SMART nanoparticles and nano-formulated drugs, which add value at every stage of the chain from partners and payers to caregivers and patients.
Evotec will leverage Leon's proprietary technology through the company's API manufacturing and CMC capabilities. Evotec and Leon will leverage their combined expertise in nanomedicine development services. As part f the partnership, Enno Spillner, Evotec's chief financial officer, will join Leon's supervisory board.
