The Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to allow seamless payment processes. Similarly to how drivers equipped with RFID sensors can bypass toll booths and pay their tolls with a card on file, shoppers, such as those at Amazon Go stores, will be able to pick their purchases, walk out of the store, and get a receipt on an app, email, or text.
Fremont, CA : There have been significant changes in the payments space over the last ten years, and there is no question that significant changes will continue to thrive. Payment patterns for 2021 tend to be shifting the market in a far more consumer-centric direction, with an emphasis on making payments as simple and convenient as possible. This dedication to frictionless payment processes is exemplified by the following trends:
No Signature Needed

Card companies eliminated the signature provision from credit card purchases in 2018. Payment security technology advances such as EMV, tokenization, and artificial intelligence (AI) for payment data monitoring have made the process of authorizing transactions with a signature virtually obsolete.
However, not all retailers automatically removed the provision from the payment transactions they process. This year, expect to see more retailers reimagine credit card processing processes in order to make them quicker and simpler for their customers.
Authentication with Biometrics
Over many years, consumers have used fingerprints to unlock their smartphones, authorize mobile banking transactions, and make mobile payments. Expect fingerprint or other biometric identification to be used to authorize purchases in many more locations, making transactions more reliable, accurate, and safe.
Seamless Payment Processes
The Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to allow seamless payment processes. Similarly to how drivers equipped with RFID sensors can bypass toll booths and pay their tolls with a card on file, shoppers, such as those at Amazon Go stores, will be able to pick their purchases, walk out of the store, and get a receipt on an app, email, or text.
In 2021, retailers will begin to investigate the possible benefits of transferring purchases to the background in order to improve consumer experiences.
