How Smart City Technologies can Work together to Create a Better City

By CIO Applications Europe| Thursday, August 13, 2020
Tweet

Every city can benefit from smart solutions, and soon, smaller cities will be aware of the benefits of these new technologies can bring into everyday life and people will start choosing them over large, overpopulated urban areas

FREMONT, CA: Cities that use IoT (Internet of Things) sensors to collect information and utilize those data to maintain and operate city assets and resources efficiently can be called as a smart city. Cities across the world deploy different kinds of intelligent technologies to help solve issues like old public transit structures, climate change, waste disposals, sustainability and more.

This is why it is important to understand how these systems can work together to develop a liveable city.

An Infrastructure that Works for Every Citizen

A smart system can operate tasks like scaling public transportation, creating and managing parking spots, maintaining traffic flow etc. and help create a smooth ecosystem with minimum supervision.

If public transit is managed by an integrated multi-modal system, allowing every citizen to develop an itinerary on their smartphone and freely select the modes of transportation they need at a reasonable price. This will save time and money, and people will start choosing public transit more than their vehicle, reducing traffic.

Maintaining Healthy Environment for Citizens

Health problems have become an urgent matter for a vast number of people living in urban areas. Challenges like irregular waste disposal, overflowing bins, pollutions and others can quickly increase if city management does not have the right tools.

These issues can be prevented by monitoring in real-time and taking action whenever it is needed.

Open Communication

Open communication channel needs to exist between city management and citizens of a smart city. These interactions can be carried out by platforms for digital citizenship, where opinions and issues can be expressed, ideas shared, and information on various topics are updated.

Digital citizenship platforms provide opportunities to build trust between citizens and the management, offers an update in time and provide access to various other incentives.
