Cloud providers, both SaaS and infrastructure, have clarified what they are accountable for insecurity. According to a study, a SaaS provider is fully responsible for physical security, host infrastructure security, and network restrictions. However, the provider and the client share security responsibilities for application-level controls, identity and access management, and endpoint protection. It's where the ambiguity — and the necessity for cloud security expertise — enters the picture.
It's when starting to notice a shift in what happens next. Once hackers have gained access to the endpoint, they aren't any longer happy to pivot sideways on the network to get access to on-premises resources. Instead, they go through the endpoint towards the cloud to obtain the data, which is frequently easier to come by.
COVID-19 has expedited the movement of traditionally on-premises applications and workloads to cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), where cloud resources such as storage and databases may get configured in even more complicated ways.
