Greater Operational Efficiencies and Safer Working Environment
The handling of cargo is a specialized activity involving the packaging and transport of cargo from factory to project site. It is done in multiple ways, including customs clearance, project registration, route survey, and much more. In addition to the strict requirements of the company, every contract in this segment is unique in its nature, size, and value. The logistics requirements must, therefore, be tailored to meet specific customer needs.
Kalmar offers the widest range of cargo handling solutions and services for ports, terminals, distribution centers, and the heavy industry. It is the industry leader in the automation of terminals and energy efficient handling of containers. Also, it enhances the efficiency of every move through its extensive product portfolio.
Kalmar offers automated devices such as Automated Straddle Terminal, ASC Terminal, Conversion Terminal and AutoRTG Terminal (RTG). Rubber-tyred port cranes (RTG) are the most popular choice of container stacking equipment in terminals worldwide, especially where high-capacity stacking and transportability are required. Automation ensures consistent, predictable performance, and reliability. This makes the planning and handling of ships reliable, which gives the terminal a competitive advantage and strengthens its business.
Kalmar has won a deal to supply the Belfast Container Terminal (BCT) in Northern Ireland with a complete AutoRTG System. The system comprises eight rubber-tired port cranes. The AutoRTG system replaces the rail-mounted portable crane (RMG) system currently in operation at the terminal. The cranes are pre-tested at the factory and are fully erected to BCT. The cranes at BCT operate fully automated in the container stack and receive orders from the Kalmar TLS for all operations based on the terminal operating system (TOS) orders.
The crane port operation is automated with the supervision of the operator in the control room on the RC desk. The handling of trucks is controlled remotely, and the system features a truck positioning system to ensure the exact alignment of trucks under the RTGs. The Kalmar AutoRTG system enables terminals of all sizes to benefit from increased operational efficiency, a safer working environment, and better predictability in their daily operations.
