Four Remote Work and Hiring Trends to Look out for in 2021

Following the pandemic, a multi-gig economy is expected to become a reality. As physical connections to a workplace diminish, more qualified professionals will be inclined to take on several working engagements – one that pays the bills and another that fuels their passion.

FREMONT, CA: As remote work becomes more common, many companies are expected to adopt a distributed workforce model in the long run, even after COVID. Here are four remote work and recruiting patterns to watch:

Hub-and-spoke offices

The hub-and-spoke workspace concept could also catch on. Organizations in this model maintain a central headquarters (hub) for occasional team meetings and policy discussions and a network of small satellite offices spread around different locations.

This model guarantees a win-win situation. The smaller offices cut overhead costs significantly while still allowing workers to operate in a location closer to their homes. As more companies understand they don't need to be located in a metropolitan city, this means a true modernization of tier-two and tier-three areas.

A hybrid model

In the post-COVID world, adopting a hybrid work model, which combines remote and onsite work, will continue to rise. While some employees would choose to work from home full-time, citing improved efficiency, flexibility, and location freedom, others will prefer to return to the office for benefits such as face-to-face experiences with colleagues. Some businesses choose to implement a model in which workers are only expected to come to work a few days a week.

Changing performance assessment trends

Quality assessments are now done regularly rather than once a year in some businesses. Continuous input would become critical in managing staff, allowing remote workers to handle their job roles and achieve performance goals smoothly. In the new standard, rethinking how we set targets and defining the most appropriate success indicators will be critical to managing others.

HR tech

Companies will increasingly use cloud-based HR technology to provide a seamless employee experience for those who work remotely, allowing them to remain involved and efficient. Digital recruiting, onboarding, learning and growth, success management, smart decision-making, and more can be made easier with these tools.
