Edge Computing and IoT will Change the Future of Data Centers

Digital transformation is on the rise, and internet infrastructure must alter itself according to data. Edge computing plays a crucial role in extending data process and storage at the edge of the network. According to an edge computing model, most data generation happens close to the data source. Data is stored closer to the end user after monitoring, handling and storing it away from the silo setup. In other words, edge computing is an architecture that allows the computer and content delivery process to take place within ten milliseconds or less.

The edge computing model trend is increasing due to higher use of consumer mobile devices. The consumption of video and virtual reality content has soared. Data center solution providers and leaders are searching for innovative ways to deploy edge capacity and support users including businesses and consumers. According to a study by AFCOM State of the data center, edge solutions are top focus areas for data center end users. Few enterprises have already deployed some form of edge computing, and some are going to implement in the next 12 months.

The Convergence of Edge Computing and IoT

The credit of the rise of edge computing goes to users, IT platforms and the increase in the Internet of things. IoT solutions are the main focus of data center and business leaders, and they are investing actively in IoT solutions. Edge computing helps organizations to tackle latency challenges and removes network barriers. The simple meaning of latency is the time required to send a packet across a network or to a business. Latency can even cause loss of business or a competitive edge. Companies and tech giants can lose a chunk of sales over latency issues.

Edge computing can help with a variety of issues and tasks because edge solutions revolve around the use-case. Edge computing can help with IoT processing, hybrid cloud connectivity, asset tracking, firewall, and network security, streamline research, branch and microdata centers. It also helps with reducing latency for specific services, connect entire networks of devices, software-defined solutions based on the need of the application, internet-enabled devices and sensors gathering and analyzing real-time data, and supporting delivery requirements for latency-sensitive data points and applications.

Setting up Edge Computing

Edge computing is creating demand for different types of facilities in different places. Data is growing in leaps and bounds, and it moves across the network, the growth of edge computing could create a ripple effect that could generate business. Edge computing comprises several layers of infrastructure a few of which are upgraded versions of existing models. For successful implementation of edge computing everywhere at scale, a compact and cheaper strategy is required. The core aspects of edge computing are wireless networks, mobile devices, small cells, telecom towers, and distributed antenna systems (DAS) as well as cloud platforms and data centers. It completely surpasses the conventional business model.
