Only a small number of businesses, notably Microsoft and Deutsche Telekom, received an A rating in the most recent quarterly digital governance evaluations for international companies.
FREMONT, CA: The average grade for the 330 worldwide corporations is 50.61, or a "C rating," indicating that most businesses have not yet integrated environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies into their digital strategies. EthicsGrade created an AI-driven model to help complete the picture of the ESG maturity of some of the biggest organisations in the world. These models can be used to show which businesses are implementing good governance in line with their digital strategy as well as those whose rankings have declined in 2022.
In terms of technological governance, including cyber and privacy-related measures and consideration of the environmental effects of their digital strategy, Microsoft and Deutsche Telekom received top marks. EthicsGrade managing partner Charles Radclyffe, Microsoft has a wide reach and a lot of responsibility as one of the biggest tech giants in the world. Although tragically, many companies are nowhere near the same level, its ESG and good governance plan set a high benchmark for the policies and efforts of the rest of the tech industry.

Businesses in the IT and telecom sectors exhibit strong standards for data and technology ethics and privacy and security regulations.
For instance, both Cisco (80.17) and Ericsson (74.95) showed high-level examinations of digital governance, public policy, privacy, and sustainability; they routinely published house views and policies on these matters and added to broader public discourse.
Similarly, the German telecoms corporation Deutsche Telekom is the second-best-scoring company that EthicsGrade has graded. It demonstrates a high level of transparency to data ethics and AI, making extensive public information on their AI ethics principles available as well as making attempts to raise public awareness of cybersecurity threats.
With a variety of sustainability measures in place to minimise energy efficiency and hardware choices to limit environmental impact, its Corporate Responsibility offers insight into its endeavour to green its network. To further boost its high EthicsGrade rating, Deutsche Telekom has also focused on making its digitalisation process more inclusive.
Online dating sites now hold a lot of very sensitive data as more individuals use them. EthicsGrade was unable to pinpoint any real transparency into their data and security policies, how they are assuring the responsible use of AI and automation, or how they protect their consumers from cybersecurity concerns other than catfishing. Users must be able to trust the matching AI with their hearts as well as the person they are matched with because these platforms rely on algorithmic matching algorithms to deliver services to potentially millions of users with very few back-office employees.
