Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Regulations in 2022

By

CIO Applications Europe | Tuesday, May 10, 2022

Cyber Security and Data Privacy Regulations should be adhered to by all who avail the services of technology. Adhering to these regulations can save credentials and businesses from cybercrime.

FREMONT, CA: Cybersecurity restrictions are likely to become more stringent around the world in the coming year. A look into the global regulatory developments that can be expected in 2022 includes privacy and data security, critical infrastructure protection, and Internet of Things security (IoT). While governments recognize the need for regulation to address cyber risks, managing these risks is complicated, made even more so by geographical differences: different regions, and countries - all have different laws and regulations governing data management and movement. Governments, industry sectors, rising dangers, and global marketplaces all contribute to this complicated picture. There’s no doubt that the year 2022 will bring more changes in this field.

Privacy has long been a human rights concern, with most countries enshrining it in legislation to protect citizens from fraud, corruption, and possible power abuse. However, to be appropriate for the digital era, privacy rules had to be modified, including securing the most sensitive data. In 2022, new data protection rules will be implemented, changed, or enforced, posing a growing number of obstacles for businesses to comply with a patchwork of laws and implementation guidelines around the world.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was introduced by the European Union (EU) to improve individuals' control and rights over their data across the European Union. By 2022, there may be further debate about whether the law needs to be changed. The European Commission has addressed critical infrastructure protection as part of the NIS Directive, which aims to improve cybersecurity across the EU by establishing mandatory cybersecurity requirements for critical market operators, including an incident notification obligation, as well as building cybersecurity capacities in Member states through national cybersecurity strategies and entities such as CSIRTs (Computer Security Incident Response Teams). This regulation is being evaluated to adapt to the evolving nature of cyber threats and to improve the efficacy of its implementation across Europe. It should be subject to a deal between European Union legislators in the first quarter of 2022.

With the passage of the delegated act on the radio equipment directive, the European Union is taking efforts to improve the cybersecurity of smartphones, wireless devices, and IoT devices. In 2022, more will be done, as the recently planned Cyber Resilience Act may serve as a horizontal law to improve the cybersecurity of all IoT devices sold in Europe. Assuring that no IoT device is released without being designed to be secure might become a key European differentiation in the global market.

To secure data, one must have ample knowledge to maintain complexity. The firms that deal with free flows of data or information must have crucial knowledge of data security. Furthermore, following a set of international standards and supporting frameworks will be a vital step as it is considered worldwide. This shows that the extent of risk, and consequently the law, is not likely to be reduced. There can be increasingly more demanding situations for companies to take care of in the year ahead.

Low-code Application Oversights and How to Resolve Them

Low-code is a powerful technology that allows development teams to build applications without complicated coding. This includes the user experience (UX), which often defines project success or failure. Eventually, low-code allows organizations to generate more satisfactory business outcomes, enabling their teams to concentrate on more profound, intricate UX problems and the needs of their users. Many low-code solutions prioritize user interface (UI)-first app building. Often the app-building procedure commences with the dragging of UI elements onto a blank canvas and then using data or actions to them, embedding necessary business logic into the layer. When application building commences this way, the capability of low code turns against the application. Ironically, by beginning with the UI, businesses end up designing unsatisfactory user experiences. Business processes, logic, and data are the core of any application. Defining what users should be able to achieve and why is critical here. The processes, logic, data and core UX should drive the UI, not the other way around. So, when a development team utilises low-code approaches that begin with UI, they are essentially forcing the business processes to follow UI and they may be left with a broken application that won’t contribute to user goals. Anyone in the enterprise software area understands that it’s typical for new projects to be entrenched for months, as individuals tend to gravitate toward less business-critical matters. Unfortunately, most low-code systems are fueling this behaviour. Rather than looking at the big picture, low-code developers start by concentrating on smaller, UI-based problems. This way they are tempted to neglect vital decisions that have a much more significant influence on how users interact with an application. Design systems must define how things work and thus should be fundamentally woven into the modelling of the application development platform. Low-code application-building tools provide both businesspeople and developers the possibility to mould a business application. But while business architects must be directly involved in the design and build, businesses should prefer models in which business logic flows into experience layers, rather than attempting to build or modify the UI. ...Read more

New People-centric Smart City Trends

Leaders are now more receptive to alternative approaches to tackling problems as cities struggle with environmental change and instances like decaying infrastructure. They are introducing measures to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining historical architecture and making cities safer for pedestrians. This is also carried out by reinventing how they approach the concept of the city. As a result of these necessities, various interesting smart city trends are emerging. Data Provides the Foundation for Smart City Planning It is well understood that data holds the key to managing ongoing, persistent challenges. Cities are coming up with innovative, strong data solutions that integrate with the foundations of city planning. They are seeking new data-gathering tools to create a baseline for funding grants. Cities might also use data to capitalise on other types of change, such as fighting misinformation over elections or pandemics, eventually reaching people in their locations. Thus, data will continue to enhance the service delivery to citizens and others within city borders. Agencies can utilise digital modelling to indicate gaps in services and communications and optimise outreach more effectively. This will further lead to an increase in civic engagement in these smart cities. Recent Events Transforming Familiar practices The increase in work-from-home practices has changed the traffic patterns that have existed for a long time. People started taking a minimum walk for groceries or other services. Moreover, curbside delivery for food, groceries, and shopping has recently increased. These changes in movement patterns have radically transformed the way infrastructure is planned and maintained. Due to curbside services, prioritising bike lanes and greater pedestrian access to previously isolated parts of cities has forced cities to rethink congestion from a localised perspective. The green space priorities are initiated to curb environmental issues, create local locations for people to congregate nearby, and connect corridors. These changes are facilitated by inventive data collection techniques such as GPS from connected vehicles or smartphones, AI-powered lights and signals, and other smart devices. Additionally, cities will be able to use these smart technologies for further improvements and to engage citizens in and connect them to the planning process from the beginning. Exploiting AI for Everything from Cybersecurity to Automation City infrastructures have a huge potential for AI to introduce its capabilities. Along with human intervention to ensure that the city runs harmoniously, AI could provide various critical support features for providing timely service, safer infrastructure, and more people-friendly cities. The assistance includes cybersecurity, automation, and production. Interconnecting services leads to more possibilities for threat attackers. AI can monitor systems, learn patterns over time, and ensure that connected networks are safer than manual monitoring. It also helps map out maintenance strategies for modern mobility without disrupting daily life. Furthermore, it can enable cities to offer optimised services in response to unexpected interventions. AI can initiate predictive management schedules to minimise downtime in concepts like public transit. It can also help build potential outcomes for disasters or trends in mobility to aid cities in planning for their future. ...Read more

Trends Shaping Modern Cosmetic Packaging Solutions

The cosmetic packaging industry is experiencing active growth, propelled by a growing emphasis on sustainability, rapid technological innovation, and shifting consumer expectations. This transformation is giving rise to packaging solutions combining aesthetic allure, environmental consciousness technology, and personalised functionality. These trends are pivotal shifts towards creating packaging that resonates with conscientious consumers and enhances their experience. Sustainability Eco-friendly materials and refillable packaging are two significant trends driving sustainability in the cosmetic packaging industry. Brands increasingly adopt recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable materials such as glass, paper, and bioplastics. This shift supports a circular economy by ensuring materials can be reused or naturally decompose while minimising environmental impact. Refillable packaging systems, including reusable compacts and jars, are also gaining popularity. These systems encourage consumers to buy refills rather than new containers, significantly reducing packaging waste and promoting long-term sustainability. Smart Packaging Smart packaging integrates advanced technologies to enhance consumer interaction and product integrity. QR Codes and NFC Tags are embedded in packaging, enabling consumers to directly access comprehensive product information, tutorials, and promotional content through their smartphones. This interactive feature enriches the shopping experience and strengthens consumer engagement with the brand. Additionally, temperature and freshness indicators are pivotal innovations in intelligent packaging. These indicators are integrated into packaging to monitor temperature changes and freshness levels, ensuring product quality and integrity. This functionality is especially beneficial for products sensitive to environmental factors or those requiring stringent freshness assurances by enhancing consumer trust and satisfaction. Customisation Personalised labels and limited editions are vital trends in customisation in cosmetic packaging. They involve custom packaging that includes consumer-specific elements, such as names or purchasing history, creating a tailored experience that makes products feel unique and special to each customer. This approach enhances the consumer experience and also strengthens brand loyalty. Limited editions feature unique packaging designs for exclusive collections or collaborations. These unique designs generate a sense of exclusivity, attracting collectors and consumers looking for rare and distinctive products, thereby enhancing the brand's prestige. Luxury and Aesthetic Appeal Premium materials, finishes, and innovative designs are central to luxury and aesthetic appeal in cosmetic packaging. Premium materials and finishes include high-quality materials like glass, metal, and crystal, combined with luxurious finishes such as embossing, foil stamping, and holographic effects. These elements significantly elevate the product's perceived value and appeal to discerning consumers. Innovative shapes and designs involve creating unique, eye-catching packaging that stands out on shelves. These creative designs attract attention, reinforce brand identity and help differentiate products in a competitive market. Functionality and Convenience Airless pumps and multi-functional packaging enhance functionality and convenience in cosmetic packaging. They use mechanisms that prevent air exposure and contamination, ensuring the product remains fresh and compelling for extended periods, which is particularly important for sensitive formulations. Multi-functional packaging combines multiple compartments or integrates applicators within the packaging, enhancing user convenience. These designs cater to consumers seeking efficiency and practicality in their beauty routines, offering an all-in-one solution that simplifies the user experience. By harmoniously blending aesthetics, functionality, and environmental responsibility, brands create packaging solutions that resonate deeply with modern consumers. As sustainability becomes a cornerstone of consumer choice, packaging that minimises environmental impact while delivering exceptional user experiences will be paramount. Furthermore, integrating smart technologies elevates consumer engagement and product integrity, while customisation and luxury continue to shape the industry's aesthetic landscape. The future of cosmetic packaging lies in creating innovative solutions that enhance the product and contribute to a more sustainable and personalised beauty experience. ...Read more

Maximizing Revenue with Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs play a vital role in the success of casinos by facilitating the attraction and retention of players. In 2023, the estimated user base for these programs reached 176 million, with projected revenues anticipated to reach $124.20 billion by 2027. These programs provide significant benefits, including scalability, enhanced brand visibility, revenue growth, and targeted player acquisition through effective SEO and digital marketing strategies. By collaborating with affiliates, casinos can effectively engage and retain players, fostering trust through partnerships that offer genuine value. This relationship creates a mutually beneficial situation for the casino and the affiliate. The Affiliate Ecosystem: Tools & Data for Success To maximise revenue through affiliate programs, a strategic approach incorporating advanced tools, transparency, and a deep understanding of affiliate needs is essential. Affiliate program software and API access enable the automation of processes and the attraction of high-quality affiliates. Real-time data empowers affiliates to make timely campaign adjustments, enhancing performance and driving revenue growth. Offering a centralised dashboard for tracking metrics and performance fosters transparency and trust, providing both affiliates and operators with a clear and comprehensive view of results. Boosting Acquisition and ROI Affiliate programs are designed to maximise revenue per player by developing customised campaigns that target specific demographics. Affiliates can focus on engaging active online casino players, enhancing player retention through strategic promotions, and employing a cost-effective, pay-for-performance model. These programs deliver a higher return on investment (ROI) than traditional advertising by tailoring campaigns to distinct market segments. Fostering loyalty and ensuring repeat customers and affiliates help maximise lifetime player value. Their emphasis on player acquisition and retention significantly boosts profitability, making affiliate programs essential for the success of online casinos. Maximising Revenue: Diversified Commission Models Affiliate partnerships should incorporate diverse commission structures to accommodate varying needs and risk appetites. Revenue share models are well-suited for affiliates seeking passive income, while CPA (Cost-per-acquisition) models offer immediate financial rewards. Hybrid deals, which combine both structures, provide a balance of upfront income and long-term revenue potential. A thorough understanding of commission terms, including negative carry-over, minimum activity quotas, and bundling practices, is essential. Affiliates must be fully aware of the associated risks, and casinos should consider implementing no harmful carry-over policies. Transparent handling of bundling is critical to maintaining affiliate trust. Protecting Casino Integrity Affiliate fraud poses a significant threat to the stability of any casino operation, making it essential to implement comprehensive anti-fraud measures. These measures should include thorough due diligence, regular audits, the use of machine learning, and IP monitoring and blacklisting. By employing these strategies, casinos can effectively vet affiliates, verify traffic sources, detect irregularities, and maintain fairness and trustworthiness within their network. Regular audits and continuous IP monitoring are vital in mitigating the risk of fraudulent activities. Building Strong Affiliations Affiliate partnerships should be aligned with a company's core values, emphasising ethical standards, customer satisfaction, and sustainable growth. Fairness fosters trust, while consistent marketing ensures messaging resonates with the target audience. A focus on long-term growth attracts high-quality affiliates. Additionally, providing affiliates with education and support equips them with the necessary resources to represent the brand effectively. Tracking & Reporting: How It Impacts ROI Advanced tracking techniques, including server-to-server tracking and dynamic variable tagging, are pivotal in optimising affiliate programs and promoting transparency. Postback data delivers real-time insights into player behaviour, enabling more effective marketing strategies. Additionally, cross-device tracking captures the entire player journey, ensuring campaign success across multiple devices. Tech & Casino Affiliate Strategies Organisations should adopt advanced tracking systems and personalised marketing strategies and leverage AI and machine learning technologies to remain competitive and attract tech-savvy affiliates. Utilising behavioural data, automation, and AI enables companies to anticipate player preferences and offer tailored promotions that drive conversions. Keeping pace with technological advancements draws top affiliates and aligns with the evolving expectations of modern players. Investing in cutting-edge technology enhances affiliate performance, boosts efficiency, minimises manual errors, and reduces costs, ultimately improving overall affiliate profitability. Affiliate partners can thrive in a competitive market when carefully selected, effectively managed, and strategically empowered. A well-structured affiliate program enhances the player base and strengthens the market presence. Organisations can succeed in a continually evolving industry by investing in the right affiliate strategies. ...Read more
