Companies and institutions have begun to reinstate some pre-pandemic ways of doing business as pandemic restrictions are lifted
FREMONT, CA: In 2022, organizations will turn to their customer experience (CX) teams for assistance in adjusting to a new normal and managing customer expectations and emotions around subjects like digital acceleration and digital saturation, sustainability, and privacy. Companies and institutions have begun to reinstate some pre-pandemic ways of doing business as pandemic restrictions are lifted, such as eliminating senior shopping hours, reinstating hurdles for passengers to jump through to change a trip, and moving away from virtual options.
This is a mistake, because consumers have become accustomed to many of the services and will continue to desire them, for example, curbside pickup, remote meeting options, and expanded digital payment, stated the Forrester report. Half to two-thirds of customers in the United States and Europe think the pandemic has impacted how they purchase items. Consumers are also experiencing digital saturation, putting pressure on businesses to manage increasingly hybrid customer experiences across physical and digital touchpoints, which necessitates connected data, ecosystem thinking, and orchestration of services.

The EU has adopted a climate adaptation policy; introduced the first delegated act for its taxonomy, defining what counts as environmental objectives for EU climate adaptation and mitigation; and adopted a proposal to make corporate sustainability reporting standardized and mandatory for more companies starting in 2023. However, EU consumers are suspicious; according to Forrester's 2021 research; only 34 percent of consumers believe corporations when they declare they would commit to addressing climate change. Greenwashers that have just used sustainability as a marketing tool will find it difficult to change. As a result, in 2022, 25 percent more EU enterprises — particularly in financial services and retail — will hire chief sustainability officers. Companies will need to recognize the importance of emotion in long-term sustainability, as well as how to break down obstacles to it.
