Imagine driving along a beautiful coastline or through the countryside. It is a smooth ride, but how? A vehicle’s performance would be indicative of quality engineering in every component, including the engine, gearbox, and the chassis, perfectly crafted with the finest attention to detail. The leading global manufacturers in the automotive industry make this possible with innovation and the use of new technologies such as automation. Human skill is taken a step further with the latter, as it helps improve overall productivity and efficiencies for their production lines. Consequently, automation helps companies dominate in the automotive market and survive it ups and downs. However, amidst the ever-changing industry dynamics of automation, organizations are struggling to transform their businesses in line with Industry 4.0.

Riding this wave of innovation is MASMEC, an Italian automation specialist with a unique background in precision technology, robotics, and mechatronics, applied to the automotive and biomedical sectors. For over 35 years, MASMEC has been designing and building custom automatic machines for component assembly and testing for the world’s leading automotive manufacturers. “Innovation is in our DNA. Although the complexities and technologies that we face today have changed, the baseline for everything for us is the focus on the people and their competencies in a continuous search for everyday improvement,” asserts Daniela Vinci, CEO at MASMEC.

As a family-owned company, today MASMEC has two divisions, one provides automation for the automotive industry, and the other one offers machines and equipment for the biomedical division (MASMEC Biomed).

Innovation is in our DNA. Although the complexities and technologies that we face today have changed, the baseline for everything for us is the focus on the people and their competencies in a continuous search for everyday improvement

Under Daniela’s leadership, following a sustainable 4.0 model, MASMEC has reached new heights. The company is renowned for its efficiency, flexibility, and quality of customization, underpinning the design and manufacture of its automated machines and lines for the assembly and testing of various automotive components. These include assembly lines for pumps, injectors, and electric motors, as well as assembly and testing systems for car gearboxes, clutches, and valves. In order to improve the production processes, MASMEC devises each system according to the clients’ specific requirements in terms of the process, quality, and productivity, alongside the economic investment. The company’s cross-functional expert team effectively handles every phase, right from design to software engineering, assembling, installation, and training, post-sales assistance, and support.

With a strong commitment to innovation, MASMEC has always made a significant investment in multidisciplinary research and continuous employee training in order to offer products in line with the competitive automotive market. The Founder and the President of MASMEC, Michele Vinci, believed from the very beginning that he had to keep the technology state of the art and invested in a research and development department in 1996. Following in her father’s footsteps, Daniela Vinci has been investing in new technologies in the industry, such as predictive maintenance, Digital Twins, and virtual commissioning, to make processes more agile and versatile. For instance, taking into consideration the recent trends in the market, the company plans to design new lines for assembling the battery packs for electric vehicles.

As a testament to its quality services, MASMEC has received several awards and accolades for excellence in innovation. The company has received one of the most prestigious awards in Italy, the National Award for Innovation by concession of the President of the Italian Republic twice, in 2009 and 2017. Moreover, MASMEC was one of the “Welfare Champions” of 2019 as per the “Welfare Index PMI,” which assesses the welfare level of small and medium Italian enterprises. “We care a lot about the work culture and welfare of our employees. We believe that the creativity and this ‘innovation spirit’ in our vision has to go together with the mental and physical wellness of our people,” exclaims Daniela.

In addition to its services, nurturing young talent has been one of the core focus areas at MASMEC. Since the beginning, the company’s leadership team has emphasized on enlightening and supporting students through various projects and internships. Having had several successful partnerships with technical schools and universities over the years, MASMEC strives to continue contributing to the education and training of students. “We provide them the firsthand industry experience of learning by witnessing overall project completion processes, right from the beginning till the end. We are a lighthouse plant for the younger generation, and our aim is to train and help them become industry-ready.”
