Navigating Oracle Licensing to Reduce Cost and Mitigate Risk

The global Oracle License Management Services market is growing rapidly as enterprises strive to optimise their IT infrastructure and reduce unnecessary costs. There are, however, a few roadblocks in the way. Complying with Oracle’s software licensing agreements and usage policies requires significant effort and resources. In addition, coordinating with Oracle to get the best license terms and pricing can be challenging, given its complex licensing and pricing policies.

LiGenius Solutions addresses these challenges by offering 360-degree insights into the licenses, allowing for meaningful optimisation recommendations from a root-cause analysis. Its flexible and comprehensive platform GoSuite provides a clear perspective on licensing and maintains an accurate inventory of Oracle licenses. It is available with both Software as a Service (SaaS) and on-premises deployment. LiGenius has achieved the certification of both “Swiss made Software” and “Swiss made Hosting,” demonstrating its industry-leading levels of quality and trustworthiness.

“We can optimise infrastructures and help customers save or reduce their license needs. Specifically, we analyse their infrastructure to understand their license needs based on the functions they use. Through a deep understanding of Oracle functionalities, we help customers meet their goals while reducing superfluous licensing,” says Mike Betsch, founder and CEO, LiGenius.

Understanding Oracle license requirements, LiGenius stays updated on technical aspects, contract negotiation, and other critical parameters crucial for advising customers, especially when current tools do not provide all the necessary information. Keeping this in mind, it has developed a tool to specifically analyse Oracle database infrastructures. This web-based solution offers a comprehensive view of everything consultants need to know to advise customers correctly.

The workflow starts with an assessment of the infrastructure. Customers receive a set of scripts they can run on their data and Oracle services. These scripts allow LiGenius to gather all the necessary information for its licensing analyser.

Betsch’s experience as a database administrator makes him proficient in quickly diagnosing and solving technical issues using the system’s existing functionalities. His team analyses and presents a report that reviews license needs. In the second phase, the focus is on optimisation and deployment. LiGenius conducts an audit to remove any potential mistakes. In addition, it questions whether some of the features are necessary and finds alternative solutions. In most cases, the goal is to deactivate and clean data dictionaries for databases. During this step, it minimises licensing costs by assessing the functionalities that are actually needed.

Through a deep understanding of Oracle functionalities, we help customers meet their goals while reducing superfluous licensing.

During phase three, LiGenius reviews customer contracts and looks at optimisation opportunities. It investigates whether any licenses need to be added or removed. Its team guides the customers every step of the way and ensures zero hiccups throughout the process. This includes knowing every intricacy of Oracle’s recalculation policy and understanding how to successfully navigate discussions with Oracle to maximise savings for customers.

Considering the importance of Oracle’s communication strategy for protecting customer interests, LiGenius ensures a single point of contact is established between the customer and Oracle. It also installs a comprehensive communication platform that combines all the relevant departments fundamental to Oracle’s licensing. LiGenius manages this platform to provide maximum benefits to clients in the future.

With new features in development, LiGenius plans to continue expanding GoSuite’s capabilities. The upcoming addition to GoSuite is GOT4Java, a comprehensive Oracle JAVA analysis, followed by a Contract Manager feature. This will allow customers to input their negotiated contract points so the end user can take advantage of specific rules tailored to them, something not yet seen in other technology offerings.
