Harnessing the Power of Low-Code to Level Up Businesses

Katrin Beuthner, Managing DirectorDeveloped by United Planet—a software development company from Freiburg, Germany, Intrexx is a low-code platform that combines the features of modern intranet with data integration and process automation in a single, consolidated platform. Notably, the idea behind Intrexx is to simplify customers’ digital journey. Founded in 1998, the vision of United Planet was to help medium-sized companies build an individual intranet without having to hire skilled developers to manage complex coding. Today, imbued with the capabilities of data integration and process automation, the low-code platform can help businesses help businesses realize their goal of a digital future irrespective of which stage of digitalisation they are at. “Intrexx simplifies our customers’ journey from analogue to digital. The integration of data into the platform removes the barrier of data silos in a multi-software environment,” highlights Katrin Beuthner, managing director of United Planet. The platform can then integrate these data for a plethora of business processes to help users build the right solution irrespective of whether the area is internal communication, collaboration with business partners, or industry 4.0 solutions.
For this, Intrexx has a drag-and-drop application design environment, where users can design their necessary applications. Users can easily integrate data, automate processes, or create applications supported by visual designers and on-screen dialogues. “With Intrexx, customers can be sure that their application development projects are complete within a stipulated timeline and budget,” adds Katrin.

To highlight the mission-critical role of such a centralised platform, Katrin shares the story of Boehringer Ingelheim, the global pharmaceutical enterprise. The client needed a solution that would allow service providers, customers, and international sales employees to have safe and reliable access to SAP data. Moreover, the access had to be available on both stationary and mobile devices, and represent different ERP systems in one portal. United Planet could demonstrate a successful SAP integration as part of the DSAG (“Deutschsprachige SAP-Anwendergruppe”) 2013 in an absolutely record-breaking time of 10 minutes. The generic NetWeaver Gateway interface made this possible. Given the preliminary success, the client also considered a solution based on SAP Web Dynpro for advanced business application programming. United Planet could integrate the Web Dynpro interface technology within Intrexx. “Thanks to low code, it was possible to implement applications in a short time with little programming effort—precisely tailored to the needs of Boehringer Ingelheim,” recalls Katrin.
What’s more, the platform can also be used to improve organisational communication. A German pet food company, in another instance, was experiencing poor inventory performance. As the client used to share information via email in the past, there used to be frequent communication gaps. Consequences of such a broken communication? Shortage of certain pet food at a store, while another store was running out of space to store the excess food. Faced with such a dire situation, the client decided to implement the Intrexx platform to streamline the communication between the stores. Soon enough, the client could see significant improvement in its communication processes. The fast and user-friendly communication between all the parties helped the stores improve their inventory and meet customer demands on-time. Katrin adds, “No matter at which stage of digitalisation the customer is, they can always benefit from our solution and scale it according to their needs.”To this extent, the Intrexx platform is available as both PaaS and on-premise solutions. MyIntrexx, the PaaS offering, allows businesses to focus on their core work while United Planet maintains and upgrades the platform with the latest features. Alternatively, users can choose an on-premise solution, where Intrexx is installed on a server on premise, and businesses maintain the infrastructure. Nevertheless, Katrin emphasises on the PaaS model of Intrexx as it allows businesses more flexibility to focus on their work at hand. The present clientele of such a subscription model includes both direct customers and partner companies. These partner companies can use the Intrexx PaaS offering to develop solutions for their clients and provide those as SaaS solutions.
Such a provision has already made Intrexx a favourable choice among many international partners. And adorned with such feathers of appreciation in its hat, United Planet is now poised to bring forth a digital tomorrow through many such partnerships across the world.
