Aprevalent challenge for IT professionals has been the maintenance of compliance, safety, and licensing documentation of their ever-growing IT assets. In essence, searching for specific technical information about their IT systems has become the number one time killer within IT departments. This problem is particularly pronounced in small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMBs) where IT administrators have to handle the increasing workload with respect to the management of their evolving IT infrastructure, which takes up most of their time and puts them in a position where they cannot train or assist support IT staff. As an antidote to this issue, the business IT sector started placing enhanced emphasis on implementing a centralised IT documentation system capable of assisting IT administrators in effectively recording, storing, and managing their ever-increasing IT assets.

One company that is at the forefront of helping businesses solve their IT management challenges in the DACH region of Europe is synetics. With its highly customisable and scalable 360° IT documentation solution—i-doit (“i document IT”), the company is transforming the ways enterprises manage their unique IT structures and processes while enhancing their ability to adapt to newer additions to their IT infrastructure. “i-doit not only covers conventional IT tasks that primarily focus on managing technical information, but also simplifies the execution of more administrative IT processes,” informs Daniel Kirsten, CTO at synetics.
Joachim Winkler, CEO and Kirsten Hidebrandt, COO

Adding Value through Intuitive IT Documentation

Founded in 1996, synetics was initially an IT consulting firm that handled infrastructure projects (including switching, routing, and more) primarily in the insurance and banking sector. Subsequently, in 2012, the company launched the first iteration of its i-doit solution and pivoted to become a pure software development company. Currently, synetics is the leading provider of IT documentation in the DACH region with a keen interest in expanding its footprint into English-speaking business communities across the world. More recently, synetics’ clients have been using i-doit to get a much-needed overview of their IT infrastructure owing to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “As the pandemic continues impacting how businesses approached their IT asset management, i-doit has assisted many businesses to gain the oversight required to assess their ability to provide remote working options to their workforce,” adds Stefan Böttcher, CMO at synetics.
A Track Record of Proven Customer Success

With such unmatched capabilities, synetics has ignited several success stories since i-doit’s launch. In one instance, the company helped one of the biggest European subway network manage their cable infrastructure. synetics provided i-doit and assisted the client gain real-time status of their cable strength and health, thereby boosting emergency detection and backup scenarios. In another instance, the company helped a large train manufacturer manage the non-IT (lights, heating systems, among others) as well as IT assets (speed sensors, customer displays, and more) within their trains using i-doit.

Similarly, synetics has deployed i-doit at the largest German Public TV units to assist them in managing their fragmented data center infrastructure for audio and video. Further highlighting the customisability of i-doit is synetics’ partnerships with promising biomedical research firms across the globe, where the company’s software is leveraged for the management of research and IT equipment being used in the development of COVID-19 vaccination. Concurrently, i-doit is helping synetics assist a multitude of city councils hospitals, and utility companies in the DACH region scale the product to their specific needs and boost the efficiency of their ITSM tasks. The company also has many non-IT cases where i-doit is employed for the management of highways, theatre infrastructure, testing equipment, and more, across numerous varying industries.

Promising a Future of Unified ITSM

Since its inception, synetics has been dedicated to release a new version of i-doit every six months to help its customers mitigate the emerging challenges in the IT documentation and service management spaces. Moving forward, Boettcher plans to expand the i-doit partner network into newer international markets to add innovative developers to their existing list of collaborators. “We are seeking reselling partners outside the DACH region to drive the development of newer add-ons and geographical growth to countries beyond our current footprint,” states Boettcher. From a technical standpoint, the company aims to provide a new SaaS version of i-doit that will help synetics compete in the SaaS market and enter more international markets.

In conclusion, Kirsten reiterates the ethos of his company, “We will continue developing newer capabilities for i-doit to help our clients get an alternative approach to implementing a modular, flexible, and affordable ITSM solution.”
