There’s hardly any resource today more indispensable and critical to the success of a business than data. Evidently, companies are racing to extract value from their data. While big data has unlocked numerous new opportunities for businesses, only a few organisations are wringing business value from their data. As a matter of fact, most data analysts are faced with the continuously increasing volume and variety of data to be managed, which, in turn, elevates the complexity of governance in big data projects. These analysts often bank on traditional data management systems that fail to support the process of digital transformation based on big data. In order to harness the potential of big data, organisations require powerful tools and more importantly, the skills and expertise to get the value out their data. This is precisely what Datalabs brings to the table.

Governed by the mission to help companies in their digital transformation journey, Datalabs empowers them with the advantage of big data analytics (sensor data, smart data, fast data, dark data, and more) and enhances data and maintains governance within the processes. Set against the rapidly evolving big data analytics market, Datalabs is an Italian startup born with a singular focus on helping companies leverage the potential of big data. Datalabs offers tools for augmented-data navigation and analysis, allowing business users to get the advantages of big data systems in a short time on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. “Back in 2011, we were quick to identify the value big data technology can deliver to the data and help our customers in the Italian market embrace digital transformation processes.
With time, we recognised that technology was complex and not familiar to manage. As a result, Datalabs has developed an end-to-end platform to simplify, govern and accelerate big data adoption and deliver value to the customer—moving from the ingestion phase to ‘deliver value’ phase,” says Dario Buzzi, CEO of Datalabs. To achieve this goal, Datalabs presents data analysts with advanced data and meta-data management and governance features that can help them navigate deeply in the data and to find the information they need.

At the core, Datalabs is a multi-patented platform focused on allowing data analysts to work on the data itself without bothering themselves with all the structures and all activities required to lay their hands on the data. To simplify user experience, the platform allows connection to RDBMS, NoSQL, unstructured files, log and other data sources and automates uploading diverse data into the data lake. “This simplified set of wizards are focused on what data engineers, data scientists and designers need to get value from data instead of how they get it,” adds Daniele Pitzolu, CTO, Datalabs. “Our customers need to grasp the meaning of data instead of the technical aspects of it. To that end, apart from our data and meta-data management features, Datalabs is able to choose the right set of technologies on behalf of the users in order to implement what the business user designs in the platform.” While business users often lack in-depth knowledge of technologies and the infrastructure involved, Datalabs minimises coding in the platform and aims to have complete zero coding by the end of this year.

Besides the advanced features of the platform, the uniqueness of Datalabs also stems from the vertical solutions it provides for specific sectors (finance, manufacturing, telco, utilities and healthcare) to bridge the gap for the adoption of innovative technologies. These solutions act an effective accelerator for complex projects as they exploit data mapping, business knowledge and business analysis in order to quickly carry out “ready to use” solutions that leverage the power of big data platforms. The most recent and innovative solutions have been developed in AIOps (Artificial Intelligence Operations) context and Digital Twins where elements such as analytics, modelling, control and simulation, can be applied to create visibility, to deliver situational awareness and to support improved enterprise decisions. In an instance, Datalabs was approached by an Italian bank that was struggling with its traditional banking systems and data management pertaining to the inflow of data from varied customers. Datalabs suggested the client offload the expensive traditional system and aided it to create a multi-tenant big data model to allow the customers to access their private data analytical platform.

Moving forward, Datalabs is currently primed to mitigate the challenges of its clients with a new management team, company structure and setup of the software. The company is also working to improve its services with regard to data management and business intelligence. “We are putting in efforts to make the platform easy-to-use for business users and expand to other verticals,” concludes Buzzi.
