Canatu
Pioneering Innovations with Advanced Carbon Nanotubes

“Through experience, we have achieved consistent quality and properties with carbon nanotubes, which gives Canatu CNT transformative potential”, says Juha Kokkonen, CEO. To fully realize their impact on the industry, the company develops CNTs through a unique manufacturing method that is cost-effective and readily scalable. Canatu employs the Floating Catalyst Chemical Vapor Deposition (FC-CVD) reactors to synthesize exceptionally pure, solid, high-quality CNTs. In this process, catalyst particles are created at the top of the reactor and float downwards with a carrier gas membrane filter. The CNTs grow on these catalyst particles, making thin, strong, and uniform CNT networks.
The company utilizes its proprietary Dry DepositionTM method to directly deposit these CNTs onto desired substrates. Unlike conventional approaches that damage CNTs by utilizing harsh techniques like ultrasonication and wet dispersion, Canatu’s Dry DepositionTM technique preserves exceptional properties of CNTs, such as high transmittance, uniformity, and mechanical strength. Along with accelerating the production process, this method results in cleaner, longer, more robust, and virtually defect-free CNTs.
Through this exceptional manufacturing process, the company has developed a record-breaking transparent conductive film with the highest commercial-scale transmittance and electrical conductivity. This advancement has expanded Canatu CNT’s applications, making the material more affordable and effective for automotive ADAS heaters and flexible touch applications.
Along with developing and manufacturing CNT materials, products, and reactors in-house, Canatu sells CNT reactors and licenses its technology to customers, allowing them to produce CNT products independently.
Canatu develops advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to improve transportation safety in the automotive sector. This includes film heaters designed specifically for de-icing and de-fogging LiDAR and camera sensors, enabling autonomous vehicles to operate effectively in any weather. It also provides 3D touch sensors seamlessly integrated into automotive interiors, effectively replacing multiple mechanical controls in different cockpit locations and enabling greater design freedom and an intuitive user experience. The company has mass-produced CNTs within the automotive sector over the decade. Demonstrating this expertise, it has delivered over half a million sensors without a single field return.

To achieve carbon neutrality by 2035, it focuses on reducing electricity consumption and carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. The company further supports this objective by ensuring its factory is entirely powered by renewable electricity and operates in alignment with third-party international standards.
With a robust foundation built by a team of distinguished scientists, Canatu has an impressive portfolio of over 180 patents. This remarkable feat highlights the company’s dedication to pioneer advancements while positioning it as a crucial player in the industry. As the world increasingly seeks sustainable and transformative solutions, Canatu is exploring future applications, unlocking the full potential of nanoscale and propelling towards a better tomorrow.
