EditorialSuccess Lies within Storage StrategiesThe era of data-centric computing has arrived, and fortunately, storage has become more cost-effective than ever. Being a critical foundation of an organisation's cloud and data center environments, data storage has steadily moved to a position of priority in the IT world. And with the exponential increase in the vast amounts of data produced by businesses across the globe, storage will continue to play a pivotal role in success. All-flash storage systems are experiencing unabated growth and will likely see this trend continue throughout 2019. Primary storage workloads should be moved to flash. This is because the price of flash has declined, and the value of performance for workloads, such as analytics has also increased. With these new workloads on flash delivering new business value, businesses can transform CapEx and OpEx for their entire cloud and data center storage infrastructure. As businesses navigate their digital transformation journey, there is a need for automating storage processes across the board. With potential security breaches always looming, critical backup processes must be automated rather than relying on employees to perform the task manually. To this end, appliance-based backup with geo-redundant cloud storage is the current trend. Such solutions offer automatic backups to ensure organisations can restore cloud data no matter what happens to it, from malicious attacks to careless employees. Moreover, the traditional approach to data centers is rapidly changing, and artificial intelligence (AI) is playing a prominent role in its design and development. While AI is expected to have an impact on countless industries, its influence will be particularly prevalent within the data center. As AI is implemented, it will lead to a host of benefits such as the ability to modernise operations by analysing data more quickly, eliminating inefficiency in server usage by distributing workloads, reduce power consumption, and better security. For any business, data needs to be available, accurate, reusable, and secure to maximise its use as a valuable corporate asset. While many vendors offer data storage solutions, it is difficult for an enterprise to choose one that suits their needs.
