EditorialThe Time for Pan-Organisational TransformationTraditionally, the idea of Agile transformation was limited to IT or software development departments, where the teams are trained on a framework, and then they adopt the recommended practices to realise the productivity and quality improvements. Along these lines, several organisations and their internal teams have achieved success by using Agile principles. However, if the advancements are isolated to the software development group, how will the rest of the organisation get benefitted by the same?In recent times, businesses have started taking a large-scale Agile approach by expanding the scope of the Agile principles and techniques throughout the enterprise, while business agility is implemented to groups outside the IT departments. Case in point: businesses will be seen to expand Agile into three areas outside the software paradigm, such as product development, portfolio management, and HR. An agility survey recently rated 394 respondents from 166 organisations in 29 countries globally on their maturity based on their insights, challenges, and successes. While a decent share of the participants reported that they struggled while transforming the deep-rooted culture and processes, a vast majority of them are working on developing new funding models and transforming various sectors at their firms. Most respondents also agreed that the use of Agile has provided tangible benefits for their investments. These benefits include improved working methodology, better employee and customer satisfaction, and optimized market performance. It has been a common observation by industry experts that those in IT who have already been operating using Agile techniques will be able to collaborate with other groups when the whole organisation moves to work on common principles and a single unified language. This will need to be a mandate since IT groups optimizing only their own workflow through Agile principles will cause them to be further slowed down due to the outdated processes. By spreading the principles, the entire value stream can be improved when business agility processes can be adopted. In this special edition on Agile, we have highlighted the innovative solution providers who are the forerunners of accelerating Agile transformations in the industry.Let us know your thoughts!Joe PhillipManaging Editoreditor@cioapplicationseurope.comJoe PhillipCopyright © 2019 ValleyMedia, Inc.
