EditorialThe chronicles of Virtual WorldAmong some of the emergent technologies that have surfaced in the recent past, augmented reality and its close cousin are among the few that are widely known to revolutionize the dynamics of digital innovations and more importantly the ways of business and lifestyle. As the corporate world applications get more immersed into the realms of virtual technology, both industry 4.0 and entertainment has a vast room for navigating AR/VR solutions that will allow humans to explore fully immersive computer-generated worlds (in VR), and overlay computer graphics onto their view of their immediate environment (AR). Over the next couple of years, this technology and its applications are expected to get increasingly sophisticated, as digital devices get more powerful and capable of creating higher quality visuals. One such enhancement is witnessed in the domain of artificial intelligence (AI) where the rise of computer vision and advanced machine learning algorithms have further sophisticated virtual environments. Both AR and VR have found their use cases vastly in education where virtual environments are allowing students to practice anything from construction to flight to surgery without the risks associated in the real world training. VR companies are expected to release stand-alone wireless headsets incorporating powerful, dedicated computer technology are set to hit the markets in future. These headsets are expected to eliminate the limitations caused by cables or low-powered displays where VR developers have created more realistic and accurate simulations of real world within their virtual worlds. This will provide the users with more immersive entertainment experiences and an unprecedented level of realism within VR games. Being mobile, the new generation of headsets will improve the technology powering the virtual experience, by including features such as eyeball-tracking and increased field-of-view. Again, this will help users feel they can interact and explore in more natural ways. Further there has been a significant development in the areas of automobiles that will be projecting the AR data directly onto the car windshield, providing navigation prompts, right-of-way information, lane identification, and hazard detection.
