EditorialThe Age of Digitized Legal Proceedings Although digitalization has been a prominent trend across all industries in the past few years, the pandemic has made it all the more crucial for every business across all sectors. Almost every market sector has undergone massive digital transformation in the recent past, the legal sector being no exception. The leading trends in the legal space today are expected to transform the face of this industry and the rate at which the legal entities and lawyers are adopting new tools. One of the most significant trends transforming the industry today is the increasing focus on cloud migration. According to the ABA 2020 Legal Technology Survey, around 58 percent of law firms leverage cloud platforms for storing data. Corporate legal departments are increasingly shifting from costly IT infrastructure and maintenance staff to accessible and cost-effective cloud hosting and SaaS solutions. Though the benefits of using the cloud are many, lawyers are often concerned with the safety and privacy of confidential documents and data across the cloud infrastructure. Besides, law firms and major legal organizations are focusing immensely on client experiences, adopting suitable technologies that make client experiences more transparent, seamless and convenient. Technologies like AI and blockchain have penetrated into the legal space, facilitating automation of the basic administrative work. These technologies are significantly changing the traditional legal models that rely on face-to-face meetings, manual handling of tasks and so on, enabling lawyers to work more efficiently and serve a larger market. Along with this, document automation is increasingly being considered, eliminating manual and paper-based workflows, wet-ink signatures and wet-ink document preparation. Besides, the emerging technologies have largely facilitated firms to modernize the communication systems among distributed workforces. Workspaces are relying on cloud-based systems with softphones, sophisticated features, and direct integration into their practice management systems.
