Quantum Computing at the Center of Future Technological Developments
As researchers achieve breakthroughs in quantum computing, the future of quantum computing appears quite promising, giving humanity a hope for a new technological era.
FREMONT, CA: A team of Chinese researchers recently revealed the world's most powerful quantum computer capable of processing 66 qubits of data. Parallelly, a team from Cambridge University created a quantum computing desktop OS, which could significantly bring quantum capabilities into the mainstream. These developments indicate promising advancements in the quantum computing domain, and the global tech community will soon witness a technological leap. Quantum computing today is a massive area of research and is under critical development, but practical applications are slowly emerging. Cloud service providers such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google have already made quantum computing services available. AT&T and the California Institute of Technology, in collaboration, have established the Alliance for Quantum Technologies to support the developments in the domain, covering theoretical work as well as practical applications. Today, quantum computing is primarily used to solve computational problems that would otherwise take too long by using traditional methods. It is also employed to create powerful encryption, enabling technologists to lock away data in more secure locations. In 2017, the world's first quantum-secured intercontinental call was established between two scientists in China and Austria. Quantum computing is also utilized for executing complex calculations needed for modeling biological organisms, such as carrying out protein in molecular simulations.
In five to ten years, quantum computing is expected to take center stage, where it will be used to solve complex problems and simplify everyday lives, a phenomenon often referred to as quantum practicality. It will not entirely replace traditional computing, not untill the foreseeable future, for it will undoubtedly contribute to several computational tasks across several industries. One could say that quantum computing is a fascinating area for technological advancements, and the world could expect to see it increasingly influence our lives in the upcoming years, marking the beginning of a new technological era.
