DevOps Team Culture Post Pandemic

Remote working has been propelling DevOps professionals to develop a better cross-team collaboration, disintegrate the silos between teams, and enhance the practice of automation within the team.

FREMONT, CA: Workforces around the world had to swiftly adapt to the changes enforced by COVID-19 restrictions, including the software development community. As a result, emerged the need to make the most with fewer resources, less room for errors, and maintaining customer relationships, all while keeping up with innovation and competition. This has been propelling DevOps professionals to develop a better cross-team collaboration, disintegrate the silos between teams, and enhance the practice of automation within the team. That being said, as remote working has become the new normal, developers find themselves distributed across the work environment, and this structure has been having a considerable impact on the software developing process as well.

Various reports point to the fact that employees are experiencing burnout while working remotely. But, on the contrary, employees who find themselves in the right DevOps culture are less likely to feel the same. A well-formed team can achieve an increase in productivity, profitability, and better customer satisfaction for organizations. Thus, it is imperative to maintain trust and collaboration within the development teams. Once those are established, it becomes easier to eliminate the usual hurdles of DevOps projects.

On the other hand, DevOps teams have also come to acknowledge the fact that there is a high need for automation in the industry. Ever since the pandemic, DevOps teams have had to manage the workflow without exhausting the workforce. Even though DevOps have shown negligence towards this technology before, the peak in demand for digital services has been forcing the teams to adopt automation.

Above all, to thrive in this post-COVID world, DevOps teams should have a leadership figure who can manage the team and lead them through the hindrances faced. As mentioned before, the need for automation has opened up the necessity for advanced-level training and experience. Thus, the need for strong and dedicated leadership to sail through all the challenges is essential more than ever.

In short, team culture matters when it comes to the productivity of a remotely working team. All the above-discussed factors play a significant role in creating such a solid team. Only a team that can successfully meet these criteria would be able to reduce the burnout of employees and enhance team morale.
