Augmented Analytics to be a Trending Technology in 2019

As per a report from analyst house Gartner, augmented analytics will be topping the charts of technology trends in 2019. Augmented analytics will change how analytics content is being developed and deployed with modern capabilities like data preparation, data management, business process management, process mining and data science. This trending technology may eliminate the need of data scientists because it gives organizations the power to embed insights into their own applications.
Citizen Data Scientists
Augmented analytics make it easier for fresh and inexperienced citizen data scientists, business users and business analysts into building predictive models themselves. These emerging technologies help data scientists in embedding machine learning algorithms and other analytics functionality into BI tools for valuable data. These insights help them prepare data models and creating data visualizations. While automated machine learning aids inexperienced analysts in building and training machine learning models for more advanced predictive analytics.
Land Grabbers
Business enterprises have used augmented analytics to drive technological disruption. Chevron Corp is a land grabber or an early adopter of Google's Cloud Auto ML technology. The seismic processing and imaging team of Chevron Corp. have used the alpha version of an AutoML Vision image analysis tool to analyze internal documents to find out new opportunities for oil drilling. The Chevron team searched the geologic map to pinpoint documents that have embedded map images. The team then ran an analytical model built on AutoML which was trained to recognize more than 60 geologic labels against the map images and later Google's pre-trained Cloud Natural language API was used for data classification found by the model to make the information searchable.
Adoption
Top BI and analytics vendors have also embraced augmented analytics and other forms of automation. Tableau has developed an AI-based fuzzy clustering algorithm helping its users to group related datasets together into the Tableau prep data preparation tool. Tableau has acquired Empirical Systems, the developer of analytics engine that can automatically model data for analysis and Tableau plans to integrate the Empirical engine into its BI software to provide intelligent data insights. On the other hand, Tableau's rival Qlik has plans on incorporating augmented analytics in its Qlik Sense software.
Empowering Businesses
Augmented analytics empowers an organization to find data correlations that are crucial in achieving total efficiency. Data is the most important factor for augmented analytics software because an inadequate data infrastructure will bring inaccurate results. Data literacy will be a critical driver to uncover the hidden potential of augmented analytics and enabling data teams to understand the responsible data and what to do with the insights they encounter.
